“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 2:5 KJV)
What type of mind does Jesus have?
Can Christians possess the mind of Christ?
These are interesting questions that require deep thoughts to answer.
Firstly, as human beings and followers of Jesus Christ, we have been endowed with the ability to be like Jesus Christ. He gives us the grace to succeed.
Jesus told his disciples that his food was to do the will of the father.
“….. My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.” (John 4:34).
The mind of Christ is to do the will of God.
As Christ followers, we are expected to be filled with the Holy Spirit and possess the fruit of the Holy Spirit.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23).
When we are filled with the Holy Spirit and the fruit of the Holy Spirit is made manifest in us and through us, those around us will notice it, even those who hate us without any cause will turn around to desire to have what we have. The word of God says, “when a man’s ways please the Lord, he will make even his enemies to be at peace with him.” (Proverbs 16:7).
Our duty is to seek God, obey him and do his will and he will take care of everything else concerning us. That is what he said in, Matthew 6:33, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Having the mind of Christ also involves disciplining the flesh and subjecting it to obedience to Christ and avoiding worldly affections and lusts. As the following verse of scripture tells us, “And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.”(Galatians 5:24).
As believers in Jesus Christ, we are to possess the attitude of Jesus Christ. We are expected to think and reason like Jesus, and have the attitude of humility and total surrender to the will of God.
How many Christians today are willing to die for the sake of Jesus Christ? Remember he died for us.
Having the mind of Christ also involves suffering with him.
He said if you love me deny yourself, take up your cross and follow me.
“Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24).
At the garden of Gethsemane he was in pain, he yearned that he would be delivered from going through the journey of the cross but when he knew that there was no other choice except to go through it, he surrendered to the will of the father.
“And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt. He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.” (Matthew 26:39, 42 KJV).
Having the mind of Christ means doing the will of the father.
So many people declare that they are followers of Christ when they are looking for a miracle or breakthrough in their lives and when they get it, they run away. Or if they face any serious challenge on the way, they quit.
Having the mind of Christ means following him on this journey of faith and going all the way to the end, regardless of how rough and rugged the journey may be. It means being determined that by his grace we will make it to the end.
He did not say that the journey would be full of roses, even roses have thorns. He actually said that if we embark on this journey with him, we shall be hated by all men. “And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.” (Matthew 10:22).
So, he warned us ahead of time. So, what do you say? Are you in it for life, regardless of what it will cost you?
Or are you in it for the good times only?
Do you have a specific agenda when you get it you run?
You have to make up your mind.
In Luke 9:62, Jesus said, “…. No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
It is time to make a conscientious decision that regardless of the suffering and tribulation, you will not give up and quit by the grace of almighty God. There is no room for backsliding. No room for quitting!
There are so many souls to be won through your obedience. No more playing games. Time is too short; the return of Jesus Christ is closer than we think. Many souls are perishing because we believers are busy playing church and wallowing in deception. It is time to wake up from sleeping slumber. May God almighty help us all in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
God almighty, Mind of Christ, Jesus Christ, souls, deception, coming of Jesus, endures to the end, seek first the kingdom
