“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.“John 15:13 KJV.
There is no love greater than the love God has for us, that he sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross, to save us from sin and eternal damnation.
As humans we love our family members and friends. We love our spouses and children deeply, but that love cannot be compared to the love the father has for us that made him send Jesus Christ to die for us.
When we were still in our sins, God sent his son to die the most shameful death on the cross.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8 KJV).
God the Father could have decided not to save us. He could have chosen to destroy the world and start all over again as he did during the time of Noah, or he could have chosen to create a new set of human beings, but he felt that we are worth dying for. Because of his great love for us, he sacrificed his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ on his part, because he has so much love for the father, and for us, he chose to obey the father in everything, even to dying a shameful death on the cross.
Firstly, he was so humble that he agreed to be born as a baby through a young Virgin, in a manger.
Secondly, he was rejected by the very people he came to save.
Thirdly, he went through pain and torture for our sakes.
He allowed himself to be mocked, humiliated, spat upon, and eventually. crucified. He laid down his life for us, when he committed no sin.
“And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.” (Matthew 27:30 KJV).
We thank God, the almighty father, who raised him from the dead. What an awesome God we have.
After all these, what does God require of us?
Nothing, but to love him and worship him, in spirit and in truth.
“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:24 KJV).
Why does it seem so hard to worship God after all he has done for us?
The answer is simply, because we have a real enemy, the devil, who has come to steal, to kill, and to destroy, but we thank God who has come to give us life and life in abundance. (John 10:10).
It is important that we embrace the abundant life that Jesus Christ came to give us. This we can do by opening the doors of our hearts and inviting him to come in.
Just as he said in Revelation 3:20,
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”
If Jesus Christ did not rise from the dead, we would have been of all men most miserable, as Paul said, and our faith would have been in vain.
“If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.” (1 Corinthians 15:19-20 KJV).
Because God almighty raised Jesus from the dead, we are guaranteed eternal life in heaven.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” (1 Peter 1:3 KJV).
No other kind of love can compare with the love God has for us.
We thank God who raised him from the dead, so death has no power over him. He conquered sin and death, and gave us opportunity to spend eternity with him in heaven. It is up to us, to grab this golden opportunity by loving God and obeying his holy word. We must do so by his grace and through the power of his holy spirit.
It is my prayer that those who do not know our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ yet, will get to know him and receive him into their lives as their Lord and Savior, so that they will partake of the abundant life he came to give all those who believe in him.
