Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. (Colossians 3:2 KJV).
This scripture verse is telling us to keep our minds on the things of heaven, in other words we are told to be heavenly minded. We should not fall in love with the world and all its vanities.
It is easy to get carried away by worldly things like earthly possessions, careers, riches, and events happening around us. Sometimes we make unrealistic plans and want God to endorse them, and when he does not answer such prayers, we blame him for not loving or caring for us.
God should not be used as a spare tyre that is only needed when the main tyre is flat.
It is time to put God first in all things. Seek his face first before making any plans. He must be first and last and in between, in our lives and in all our activities.
In this present world there is so much chaos, unrest and uncertainty, it is easy to become so preoccupied with what is happening around us and be filled with worry and anxiety, but we need to take solace in the word of God.
Jesus reassured his disciples in Luke 12:32, by saying to them not to be afraid, “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom“.
The Father loves us so much that he wants only the best for us, but we must trust him and wait patiently to receive what he has for us. That is why he said in Jeremiah 29:11 KJV “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
He also tells us, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” . (Philippians 4:6 KJV).
Even in the midst of trials and tribulations, we can take comfort in the word of God.
Matthew 6:31-33, tells us not worry about tomorrow, what we shall eat, drink, or wear but rather to trust God and seek his kingdom first and his righteousness and every other thing shall be added unto us.
May God help us today as we strive to concentrate on the things above by meditating on his holy Word, seeking first his Kingdom and allowing our lives to be transformed by the Word of God in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
