For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.”  (Matthew 25:14-18).

The unprofitable servant was full of fear and excuses and did not even make any effort to invest the talent which was given to him, instead, he dug a hole and buried it. Sometimes laziness is covered up with excuses.

The other two servants invested their talents wisely and made profits with them and when their master returned they gave account of what they did with their talents and they were rewarded by their master.

If you love God, you will obey him and keep his commandments. You will make good use of all the talents he has given to you on this earth. You will be productive for the Lord.
You will not be like the unfaithful and unprofitable servant  we just read about in the verses above, who buried the only talent given to him, because he looked down on his master.

Rather you will be among the faithful servants who received two, and five talents respectively, and put them to great use.

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.” (Psalms 111:10).

To have reverential fear for God is the first step in showing our knowledge of him, and that we truly understand who he is.

There are blessings awaiting those who obey God, just as the master rewarded the faithful servants in Matthew 25:19-23,
After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.  And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”

Likewise punishments await those who disobey God’s commandments, the slothful servant was punished severely by his master.  This is shown in this same Matthew 25:26-30, “His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed: Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Jesus used this parable to explain what the kingdom of heaven is like. So we must be obedient to God’s commands and be diligent in our assignments to be able to enter into his kingdom and enjoy all the privileges God has prepared for us. . As the Bible tells us in Revelation 22:14 – “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

When you fear God and worship and obey him, your service to God is not in vain. Yes, when you do God’s will, there is a reward waiting for you in heaven. It is a great thing to look forward to, it should be a great motivation to help you endure all the pain and sufferings you are going through right now.

Just as Paul said in 2 Corinthians 4:17, “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.”

What is the talent that God has given you that you have not tapped into yet? It is time to uncover it and start using it effectively.
Is there an idea that God has put in your heart that you have been procrastinating on? This is the time to launch out.

Ask God to reveal to you the way forward. Do not bury your God-given talent any longer and do not try to do it without God’s help.  Seek his face and he will surely show you the way, through the power of the Holy Spirit.

How glorious that day will be when we shall hear from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. “well done good and faithful servant” enter the kingdom prepared for you. It will surely be a day of great joy.
Cheer up, be humble and do not give up. Be patient, learn to have reverential fear for our almighty Father and his Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Shalom!
